Description:
GLEON Workshops are designed to enhance the educational experience, collaboration, and data utilization of GLEON members, especially students. Workshops are for students and other GLEON members to learn skills in areas such as data acquisition and access, data management, modeling, applied ecology, and outreach. Workshops are organized and are often led by graduate students. For example, at GLEON 7 (Sweden 2008), students learned techniques for accessing GLEON’s large sensor network repositories, and at GLEON 8 (New Zealand 2009), students learned lake modeling techniques developed by experts in coupled physical-chemical-biological models.
Workshops:
Cool things you are doing with GLEON data - GLEON 7 - September 2008 (Norrtälje, Sweden)
Model my lake - GLEON 8 - February 2009 (Hamilton, New Zealand)
At GLEON 9 there will be multi-topic workshop on Monday, October 12. The morning section will focus on physical limnology and be lead by Dr. Sally MacIntyre. Sally is an expert on physical limnology and she will focus on understanding physical processes in lakes and utilizing GLEON buoy data to better inform physical models. For more information about her, visit her website.
The afternoon section will be led by Dr. Carol Brewer and will focus on communicating science with the public. Carol is an expert on communication and education of science and she will discuss ways to effectively communicate complex science ideas to a non-scientific audience. For more information about her, visit her website.
In addition to these, there will also be an introduction to GLEON for new members. See the agenda for more details.
