Domains of Control
Group moderators:
Thorsten Blenckner
Kathie Weathers
Summary: This working group seeks to understand how the control over ecosystems change across space-time domains. For example, dissolved oxygen observations at a fixed point in space may be controlled by internal waves at short time scales, metabolism at the diel scale, storm-induced mixing at the week scale, and seasonal cycles at the annual scale. A number of overreaching questions guide the long term activities of the group: How can the highly detailed temporal data collected by GLEON sensors be extrapolated beyond the network using Remote Sensing and other data? How can Sensor data be used to detect changes in ecosystem state? At what scale can state changes be detected? What are the Thresholds of Detection and how can these be determined? What are the number and nature of domains that control lake ecosystems?

*Based on our discussions at GLEON 6 a new mailing list has been set up to facilitate discussion between GLEON members who wish to participate in the Domains of Control work group.
